Generator Configurations
Open-type generator sets provide access to the engine, alternator and service components. They require a suitable installation area with ventilation, exhaust routing and protection from weather. Soundproof enclosures are available where noise control and outdoor installation are required. Containerized arrangements can be considered for larger equipment and projects requiring a dedicated equipment enclosure.
The installation layout must allow access for filter replacement, battery maintenance, radiator cleaning and component removal. Cooling-air intake and discharge openings should be arranged to prevent hot air from returning to the radiator.
Prime and Standby Power Ratings
Prime power (PRP) and emergency standby power (ESP) describe different operating duties. PRP applies to operation under a variable load within the manufacturer’s stated limits. ESP applies to emergency operation during an interruption of the normal power supply. Standby power should not be used as a continuous operating rating.
The tables below list ENERZIP C Series configurations at 50 Hz, 1,500 rpm, 400 V, three-phase, four-wire and a power factor of 0.8. Engine mechanical power is shown separately from generator electrical output.

Technical notes: M = mechanical governing; E = electronic governing; ECM = electronic control module. L indicates an inline cylinder arrangement; V indicates a V arrangement. Where alternative engine versions are listed, the supplied engine model will be identified in the quotation.
Tables are preliminary catalogue data. Some kVA/kW pairs contain rounding differences. Fuel-consumption figures have no stated load basis and should not be used to calculate full-load fuel storage without confirmation. Final ratings, engine specifications, fluid capacities, dimensions and weights must be checked against the selected configuration. Dimensions apply to open-type arrangements; enclosure and container dimensions are specified separately.
Engine, Alternator and Controller Selection
The C Series configurations above use Cummins engines. Other ENERZIP diesel generator configurations can be specified with engine options such as Perkins, Yuchai and Weichai, subject to the required output and application.
Alternator options include STAMFORD, Leroy-Somer and ENGGA. Selection should account for the required voltage, motor starting load, nonlinear loads and permissible voltage dip. The alternator model and excitation system are identified in the project datasheet.
Controller options include DSE, ComAp, DEIF and SmartGen. Functions depend on the selected controller and wiring arrangement. Automatic mains failure operation, remote monitoring and generator paralleling must be specified when requesting a quotation.
Selecting a Generator for Your Site
Generator sizing requires more than adding the nameplate power of connected equipment. The load assessment should include the expected operating demand, the largest motor, its starting method and the sequence in which loads are connected. Pumps, compressors, refrigeration equipment and air-conditioning systems can impose starting loads substantially above their normal running demand.
Site altitude and ambient temperature also affect selection. Available engine and alternator output must be checked at the installation conditions. For projects with UPS systems, variable-frequency drives or other nonlinear loads, provide the equipment data so that alternator loading and voltage performance can be assessed.
Fuel Storage and Operating Time
Fuel tank capacity is selected from the required operating time and fuel consumption at the expected load. State whether the required runtime applies at full prime load or at another operating load. Tank sizing must account for usable fuel volume and the installation arrangement.
Base-mounted tanks, external tanks, fuel transfer equipment and level monitoring are specified according to the project. Their inclusion in the supply must be confirmed in the quotation.
Delivery, Installation and Maintenance
The quotation identifies the engine, alternator, controller, output breaker, enclosure and included accessories. ATS panels, synchronizing equipment, external fuel tanks, power cables, exhaust extensions and site installation are included only where listed in the agreed scope.
Installation requires a suitable foundation, equipment access, cooling airflow, exhaust discharge, electrical protection and earthing. Maintenance intervals follow the engine and alternator manufacturers’ instructions, taking account of operating hours, calendar time and site conditions.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I choose the correct generator size?
Provide a load list showing equipment power, operating quantities and starting methods. Include the largest motor, expected simultaneous demand, daily operating hours and any planned expansion. Voltage, frequency, altitude and ambient temperature are also required for selection.
What is the difference between prime and standby power?
Prime power is used for variable-load operation within the manufacturer’s stated duty limits. Standby power is intended for emergency operation when the normal supply fails. Permitted operating hours and loading limits must be checked for the selected generator.
Can the generator start automatically during a power failure?
Yes, when equipped with compatible automatic-start controls and an appropriately configured ATS or AMF system. The system monitors the utility supply, starts the generator and transfers the load after acceptable generator voltage and frequency are established. A normal open-transition ATS involves a supply interruption during transfer.
Can the generator supply water pumps or air-conditioning motors?
It can, provided the generator is selected for both the running load and starting demand. Please supply motor ratings, starting methods and the number of motors that may start together. Engine response and alternator voltage dip must be considered.
How many hours can the generator run on one tank?
Runtime depends on usable tank capacity and fuel consumption at the actual load. Specify the required hours and load level when requesting a quotation. The listed fuel-consumption figures should not be treated as verified full-load figures without confirmation of their operating basis.
Are installation and maintenance included in the price?
They are included only when stated in the quotation. Please provide the project location and required work scope so that installation, commissioning, operator training and maintenance support can be assessed separately.
